Depending on the nursing profession, nostrification procedures are carried out either by Austrian universities of applied sciences or by the local offices of the regional government responsible for such matters, as follows:
- Education equivalent to a degree in Health and Nursing Care: Austrian universities of applied sciences
- Education equivalent to a nursing assistant level 2: Office of the provincial government concerned
- Education equivalent to a nursing assistant level 1: Office of the provincial government concerned
The Guide directs you to the relevant authorities and helps you differentiate between nostrification and recognition. The contact points include links to the necessary documents.
Work during nostrification process
If the final nostrification requires additional compensatory measures, the notification will specify which examinations, internships or training courses are required. Affected persons can work in nursing professions during this process as follows:
- In case of a nostrification certificate as a nurse, temporary employment as a nursing assistant level 2 is possible.
- In case of a nostrification certificate as a nursing assistant level 2, temporary employment as a nursing assistant level 1 is possible.
- In case of a nostrification certificate as a nursing assistant level 1, temporary work under guidance and supervision as a nursing assistant level 1 is possible.
These options are limited to a period of two years. Registration in the Register of Healthcare Professionals is a prerequisite for practicing the profession in Austria.
