Nurses with a degree in Health and Nursing Care

Nurses with a degree in Health and Nursing Care are responsible for caring for individuals of all ages, groups, and communities. Nurses work in various areas of health, nursing, and social services. These include mobile, outpatient, day-care, and inpatient care facilities such as home care, primary care units, hospitals, or nursing homes. Nurses adhere to ethical, legal, intercultural, and psychosocial principles. Based on sound scientific foundations, their professional education enables them to contribute to promoting and maintaining health, supporting the healing process, and assisting with activities of daily living in the presence of health impairments. Nurses develop and implement nursing strategies to promote health literacy, especially in cases of chronic illnesses. In the field of medical diagnosis and therapy, they carry out tasks independently based on medical orders and contribute to treatment through interprofessional collaboration.

Education:

Completion of a Bachelor’s degree programme at a university of applied sciences lasting at least 3 years (equivalent to at least 180 ECTS credits).
After completing their education, nurses must register with the Register of Health Care Professions to be eligible to work as a nurse. The language level required for entry in the Register of Health Care Professions is B2.

Admission requirements for a Bachelor’s degree programme at a university of applied sciences:

  • General university entrance qualification, Austrian vocational qualification examination or university entrance qualification examination or
  • relevant professional qualification with additional examinations, as well as
  • job-specific and health-related suitability.
