Criminal Record Certificate

The criminal record certificate is an extract from the criminal register that lists a person’s recorded convictions or confirms that no convictions are registered. Many employers require the submission of a criminal record extract. In many cases, this document must not be older than three months. There is also a specific version called the “Strafregisterbescheinigung Pflege und Betreuung”, or the Criminal Record Certificate for Care and Support. A criminal record certificate can be issued by the competent regional police directorate (Landespolizeidirektion), a police station, or the mayor. It is often also referred to as a police clearance certificate (polizeiliches Führungszeugnis).
