University of Applied Sciences

Universities of applied sciences are practice-oriented higher education institutions that offer a wide range of bachelor’s and master’s degree programmes. Upon completion of a bachelor’s degree in health and nursing care, individuals obtain the professional qualification for nurses with a degree in Health and Nursing Care and may begin working after registering in the Health Professions Register. In the field of health and nursing care, many universities of applied sciences offer specialised study programmes that combine both theoretical and practical training. These institutions are also responsible for the nostrification of foreign academic degrees in Austria. Once nostrification has been successfully completed, the foreign degree is recognised as equivalent to the Austrian qualification and entitles the holder to use the corresponding academic title and to practise the profession in Austria.
